MORE REVIEWS From SID WEAVER This is a very warm sort of close family story of the two sisters, their aging mother and uncle, endearing pet dog and younger brother all engaging in intimate repartee while making small progress toward solution to the crime. St. James and Bradner give us a well crafted and cleverly written story that should be read in front of a warm fire. It is engaging and keeps the gentle reader going page after page with a good mix of humor and intrigue. I give it an 8 of 10 on the Weaver Meter. Sid Weaver ... Amateur Reviewer and Sleuth Wanna-Be www.mainlymysteries.com From DAVID J. GERSON, Las Vegas Now Magazine The Silver sisters made me laugh. Serious murder...very amusing...characters from Alaska to LA. Set around the theme of a cooking contest with renowned Chefs. It gets ugly. You'll meet characters by the name of Sterling Silver, Godiva, Goldie Silver, Candy, Chili Pepper, Red Pepper, Caesar Romano, Sam Ziti, Mr. Manicotti, Biff Wellington, get it? A fast moving, light, exceptionally humorous whodone it. A good summer read. From DAWN DOWDLE. Godiva, a Beverly Hills advice columnist, is poisoned on a TV cooking show. Her twin sister Goldie, an aging hippie from Alaska, quickly comes to town when her daughter Chili calls. Luckily Godiva recovers. Chef Romano from the cooking show begins seeing Godiva and explains that someone is sabotaging his show. He’s sure it’s Chef Biff Wellington. They’ll be going head to head soon in the Gourmet Gladiator’s Tournament.
Chef Romano hires Chili as his new assistant. Godiva and Goldie watch the shows being taped out of concern for Chili. And they start looking into Chef Wellington to try to figure out if he really could be the person behind everything.
When one of the chefs is murdered, Chef Romano is the prime suspect. Godiva is sure he didn’t do it and the twins set out to prove it and find out who did.
This new series is off to a great start. The twins Godiva and Goldie are opposites, but when they work together, they’re great sleuths. Throw in their quirky family and you’ve got a real winner. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. I highly recommend this book.
Dawn Dowdle NEW: blog.mysteryloverscorner.com and online mystery reviewer www.mysteryloverscorner.com From JOELLEN CONGER… REVIEW RATING: 5 STARS *****… An amazing sister writing team, Morgan St. James and Phyllice Bradner, put out a witty, complex murder mystery that will keep you laughing from beginning to end. It’s a must read. This book is chuck full of surprises and plot twists. I didn’t want this book to ever end. A CORPSE IN THE SOUP is a whimsical tale about the Silver twins, who get into the act like Miss Marple. When the rich sister, Godiva Dubois, a newspaper columnist attends the TV program, ‘Flirting With Food’ featuring Chef Caesar Romano… she is hospitalized with food poisoning after tasting one of Caesar’s culinary creations on the set. Her sister Goldie Silver Pepper, closes her Silver Spoon Antique Shop in Juneau, Alaska and dashes to LA to be with her twin. Being identical twins has its own advantages when the entire family and a fistful of friends become involved in sleuthing out the facts they suspect the police may have overlooked. From OLIVERA BAUMGARTNER-JACKSON Fast-paced and laugh-out-loud funny, this was a quick and satisfying read. Morgan St. James and Phyllice Bradner are sisters in real life, so that might explain why their co-operation worked out so well in a book as well. I certainly hope this was not the last book they’ve written together. Silver Sisters rule! I would highly recommend “A Corpse in the Soup” to any mystery lover, particularly those who enjoy the Cooking Channel and love a good, funny read. Take several chefs, add some classy – and less classy - ladies, a couple of well-aged vaudeville actors, a talking dog, a bunch of gofers and miscellaneous Hollywood characters, and add a heaping cup of jealousy, a pinch of intrigue, a smidgen of history. Garnish with incredibly funny names (Sterling Silver, Biff Wellington, Chili Pepper, Justin Thyme, Mr. Manicotti, Caesar Romano…), take a shot at the increasingly popular cooking shows and stir well. What do you get? You get a recipe for an amusing, frothy, yet not lightweight romp. The characters are lovable and believable, even when they leave you shaking your head in wonder over their antics. The story flows well and pulls you in very quickly. Although you might think quite early in the book that you know who the villain is, I would be surprised if you’d truly manage to solve this mystery before the final pages. From AUDIO FILE A CORPSE IN THE SOUP is a delightful spoof on the food mystery. Stephanie Brush portrays a wide range of characters, from a former vaudeville performer in his 80s to an arrogant TV chef and a ditzy starlet wannabe. The fun begins when Godiva is hospitalized after sampling a dish on a cooking show, then starts dating the chef. Who can resist hearing about characters with names like Caesar Romano and Biff Wellington? The mystery may be light, but it has action, suspense, multiple suspects, and surprises--all marinated in a rich sauce of humor. Occasionally, Brush speaks too closely to the microphone, overly emphasizing her consonants. But her dialogue is natural, with all the appropriate emotions. From Judy Boettcher “The writing team of Morgan St. James and Phyllice Bradner are certainly slated to become very famous names in the fiction world.” Murder and near-murders abound in this hysterical light romantic comedy mystery starring the amateur sleuth sisters and their mother and uncle sidekicks. Goldie and Godiva are the proverbial country mouse and city mouse, reading each other's thoughts when it suits them, while getting to the bottom of other people's business all over LA and Beverly Hills. Read "A Corpse in the Soup" for yourself! Judy Boettcher Author of The Loffington Twins PI Mystery Series www.judyboettcher.com From JUDY BAGSHAW Tongues firmly planted in cheeks, E.Morgan St.James and Phyllice Bradner have crafted a campy mystery romp... peppered with puns, A Corpse in the Soup takes us to Hollywood and into the world of celebrity chefs. The book is peopled by a odd assortment of characters including psychic twin sisters, an elderly clairvoyant, ex-vaudvillians,a polka king, an advice columnist with the intials G.O.D.,chefs with names like Biff Wellington and Caesar Romano, and a talking dog! The humour is broad, and the puns perhaps go a bit over the top, but it is a fun read. Like any good murder mystery, there are lots of red herrings, and the required pile-up of bodies. If perhaps St.James and Bradner sometimes slip into the odd cliche, it's forgivable in the face of the book's overall ability to entertain. -Judy Bagshaw, Author of BIG FAT LIES, romantic suspense with a full-figured heroine. www.judybagshaw.com

From J. D. WEBB. A Corpse In The Soup mixes a dollop of mystery, a generous portion of humor and an inside look at the behind-the-scenes business of professional chefs. Someone is trying to snuff out Chef Caesar Romano. Is it his chief competitor Biff Wellington? The killer is methodically targeting Chef Romano and anyone else who gets in the way. And advice columnist Godiva Olivia Dubois (G.O.D.) almost becomes a victim. She and her wisecracking twin, Goldie, are determined to find out who is laying out a recipe for murder. Grab a delicious snack, a favorite beverage – it is, after all, about food -- and settle into a comfortable spot to read this joyful romp created by the Silver Sisters. I can’t wait for the next entrée. J. D.
